Kindness could solve a lot of the problems the world is facing. Back in 1988, George Bush, Sr. called for a “kinder, gentler nation”. With everything happening in our country, we could still use that reminder. Teaching kindness starts at a young age; not just at home, but at school, too. At A Child’s Place at the Ranches, your day care Gilbert AZ, we know that when the kids are kind to each other, everyone is happier. This still holds true as they grow up.
Here are three ways we can teach kids to be kind:
Example – Kids are experts at copying what they see. The more often they see kindness extended to themselves and those around them, the more it becomes the norm. We treat each other with respect. We use manners. We listen. We help. We don’t hit. We set the example of the Golden Rule “Treat others the way you would like to be treated.”
Opportunity – When something unkind happens, whether your child was the unkind one or the one on the receiving end of someone being unkind, take that opportunity to teach them about kindness. Ask “how did that make you feel?” “Do you like to feel like that?” “What can we do next time?” Remember, be kind and patient as you handle this as you are still an example.
Time – Take time out of your busy life to be kind to those you wouldn’t ordinarily see or think about. It could be as simple as stopping to give a homeless person food. If you want to do something, but you don’t know where to start, check out www.justserve.org for service opportunities around the Valley.
Kids who don’t know that kindness makes the world a better place grow into adults who don’t know that either. Help make your children’s future brighter by teaching them kindness when they’re at their day care Gilbert AZ or elsewhere.
